The IYLC is aimed at university and college students, who seek to strengthen their leadership skills and gain meaningful international experience. The Conference welcomes individuals between 18 and 24, who demonstrate commitment to academic excellence, personal development and community involvement in a spirit of responsible and sustainable leadership.
Scholarships
In the coming months, Youth Leadership Europe will be awarding 30 scholarships to students who come from underprivileged communities around the world. We hope that these scholarships will enable students from Sub-Saharan Africa, South-East Asia, the Middle East, Latin America, the Carribean, Pacific and many other regions to attend the International Youth Leadership Conference in Prague.

| It's all a bit of a team effort. Admittedly, I start to think about the IYLC about two months before the conference, when I arrange my flights (on the to do list actually) and incessantly browse through my Praha photos on Facebook when I should be earning money. It doesn't all start there. Since February Ismayil and Maryna have been working flat out, and a few weeks ago CCI took on three more staff, Davey from Canada, Katarina from Czech Republic and Kiryl from Belarus. I haven't met the new crew yet, but reports from a staff meal a while back assure me that good times may just roll out. And what of these facilitators? I've had the fortune (read: mis) of working with four of these fine people over the last year. Vickie Mbogo, Kenya/UK, is a law graduate with a passion for international advocacy and someone I consider one of my closest friends, despite the fact she does my head in. Someone I talk to more than my own mother, she has a voice (ask her to sing at the Culture Night - well worth it) that could rip down walls. Farah Jamal, Canada, is the person that if I ended up on the other side of the debating table with would reduce me to a quivering wreck begging for intellectual mercy. A graduate of Wilfred Laurier in Politcal Science, she could stun a team of oxen at a 1000 paces and cause them to flee. Patricia Stallings, United States, has earned the title of 'Crazy Aunt Patty'. In the EU Parliament simulation in the Czech Senate last year she stood up to defend her group in the most animated and passionate way, like some sort of exceedingly protective mother getting the wolves away from her young. She brings unfaltering dedication and stewardship to her role, and earned the respect of us all without even trying. Fatima Khakwani, Pakistan, is, no word of a lie, the nicest, most overqualified person I have ever met. A MBA graduate and Merril Lynch employee in San Francisco, I have learnt so much from her humor and grace whilst facilitating. As for Miss Etonde Martin, Cameroon, I have it on great account that she too ranks among the legends. A participant and founder of International Youth Leadership Africa, she is studying in Nairobi and has studied in Chicago. Adil Bouzaffour, Morocco, is with Fatima in the incredibly smart MBA bracket. Working for Metcliffe Insurance, Adil has a keen business mind and wants to be able to help create a business environment that manages culture effectively and fosters development for all nations. So there we have it. Be nice to us, we really do try our best. All we promise is that we will work tirelessly to deliver a conference that will open your mind and and connect you with a network of people that you will have with you for many years to come...no pressure or anything... |
