Observers Programme PDF Print E-mail

The Observers Programme intends to acquaint professors and other university staff with the International Youth Leadership Conference and offers an opportunity to validate its academic and cultural aspects through gaining first-hand experiences and insights during the IYLC week. We will extend this opportunity to a group of 8-12 observers, who will have a chance to observe all simulations, site visits and panel discussions in the course of the conference week.

Observe

The Observers will have an opportunity to explore the IYLC and attend all conference activities, including student simulations, site visits, panel discussions, presentations and other group events. With this all-encompassing first-hand experience, the Observers will be able to ascertain the academic and cultural components of the conference and determine its suitability for their current and future initiatives.

Comprehend

Guided by an experienced facilitator, the Observers will learn more about the “content and process” of each simulation, methods and techniques used in planning and development sessions with the students, administrative and logistical aspects of the conference and other details instrumental in shaping the IYLC.

Network

Throughout the Programme, the Observers will have an opportunity to network and exchange ideas with a group of fellow professionals that represent other universities and organisations worldwide, discovering possibilities for establishing international partnerships and enriching intercultural programming at their institutions. Additionally, the Programme will feature networking events and meetings with local academic communities and experts in related fields.

Reach Out & Connect

The Observers will be working in close contact with the diverse group of conference participants from over 30 countries and 60 universities, who represent a wide spectrum of interests and viewpoints and engage in challenging discussions on issues of global importance. Interaction with these young leaders will offer valuable insights on the state of education, and especially leadership education, around the world, as well as perspectives and ideas about global youth-led development. In addition, Observers will be given an opportunity to schedule mentoring sessions and presentations with participants (both on individual basis and with the whole group).

Promote Your Programme and Recruit

The IYLC is an engaging forum for the Observers to promote their schools, organisations and programmes in a pre-selected group of prominent young leaders. The Conference reaches out to the leading universities around the world and works with their most promising students. Owing to its competitive application process, the IYLC welcomes a group of outstanding students, who demonstrate exceptional leadership potential, as well as academic and professional excellence.

Build a Partnership

As part of the Programme, the Observers will have an opportunity to meet the conference executives to discuss partnership opportunities, as well as licensing possibilities for implementing the conference elsewhere.

Explore Prague

The Programme is designed in a form of a retreat, whereas this sabbatical can be easily combined with some relaxing sightseeing experiences: explore centuries of Prague’s history, visit medieval castles and cathedrals, walk in the tranquil streets of Mala Strana, enjoy Czech cuisine at the Old Town Square, follow the footsteps of Kafka, cross the Charles Bridge – discover all the treasures of this great city.

The following are the testimonials we have received from the Observers at the 18th IYLC:

“What a wonderful experience for university administrators interested in developing programs to help their students become more globally-minded. The structure and organization of the program is outstanding. The students appeared to be gaining greatly both academically, culturally and socially. I will simply try help my students participate in this program in the future. It is a week packed with remarkable learning experiences”

~ Kathy Humphrey, PhD, Vice Provost and Dean of Students at University of Pittsburgh (United States)

“I would recommend that practitioners concerned with teaching and learning consider being an observer at the IYLC. It allows you to access an international cohort of young people enthusiastic about leadership, international affairs and the world around them. It also allows you to interact with your peers internationally giving you a fresh perspective on issues affecting teaching and learning around the world. I expect that some of the young people I have met at this conference will do great things in the years ahead. Last but not least, you get to explore Prague with a great group of new friends”

~ Pauline Eadie, PhD, Lecturer at University of Nottingham (UK)

“I was very impressed with this program. It was very well organized and planned and the activities were topical, interesting and stimulating. I am sure every single student would have found it a terrifically enjoyable experience which broadened their horizons, their knowledge and their personal and cultural development”

~ Prof. Douglas Yorke, Curtin University (Australia)
